Much was made this week in the US media about Michael Flynn\u2019s\u00a0recent guilty plea<\/a>\u00a0to making false statements to the FBI, as part of Special Counsel Robert Mueller\u2019s never-ending \u201cRussia probe.\u201d Beyond the political window dressing however, there\u2019s a much bigger and more profound story lingering in the background.
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

Although court documents show Flynn has admitted to giving false statements in reference to his \u2018reaching out\u2019 to Russia\u2019s ambassador to the US, Sergey Kislyak \u2013 the mere act of initiating contact with any foreign official is neither illegal nor is it a violation of ethics. Putting the current Red Scare aside, this would normally be viewed as standard statecraft for members of any incoming US administration. Even if Flynn had promised the Russian Ambassador,\u00a0as claimed this week<\/a>\u00a0by\u00a0Resistance<\/em>\u00a0leader Rep. Elijah E. Cummings of Maryland, that a Trump government would \u201crip-up sanctions,\u201d such a promise by Flynn would not be unlawful. Anyone can make a promise, we should point out here that neither Flynn, nor Donald Trump would be in any position to make good on such a promise without the blessing of the US Congress and Senate. Just look at what happened when Trump took office. Were any sanctions lifted?<\/p>\n

That said, after\u00a018 months of fabricating fake news<\/a>\u00a0about\u00a0Russian hacking, Russian meddling<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Russian collusion,<\/em>\u00a0it\u2019s not surprising that the\u00a0New York Times<\/em>\u00a0would get the Flynn story wrong, too, and on an even bigger scale than many of their past made-up stories about Trump scandals. Here we have yet another hand-wringing\u00a0Resistance<\/em>\u00a0writer,\u00a0Harry Litman<\/a>, claiming that Flynn\u2019s testimony will go in down history next to Watergate and Iran-Contra:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe repercussions of the plea will be months in the making, but it\u2019s not an exaggeration to say that the events to which Mr. Flynn has agreed to testify will take their place in the history books alongside the Watergate and Iran-contra scandals.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

He might be right, if only the media coverage and the federal hearing would focus on the correct country with whom the Trump team was\u00a0colluding,<\/em>\u00a0which unfortunately was not Russia. Funny how partisan writer Litman did not even mention the word\u00a0Israel<\/em>\u00a0once in his report. Perhaps this is why certain persons in Washington like Adam Schiff, Chuck Schumer, John McCain and others, along with their corrupt media counterparts like CNN, the Washington Post and the New York Times have been incessantly pushing their fictional \u201cRussia did it\u201d narrative for the last 18 months \u2013 because Russiagate serves as a convenient overlay for\u00a0Israelgate.<\/em><\/p>\n

Mehdi Hassan<\/strong>\u00a0from\u00a0The Intercept<\/em><\/a>\u00a0writes:<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026 Why aren\u2019t more members of Congress or the media discussing the Trump transition team\u2019s pretty brazen collusion with Israeli\u00a0Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to undermine both U.S. government policy and international law? Shouldn\u2019t that be treated as a major scandal? Thanks to Mueller\u2019s ongoing investigation, we now know that prior to President Donald Trump\u2019s inauguration, members of his inner circle\u00a0went to bat on behalf of Israel<\/a>, and specifically on behalf of illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, behind the scenes and in opposition to official U.S. foreign policy. That\u2019s the kind of collusion with a foreign state that has gotten a lot of attention with respect to the Kremlin \u2013 but colluding with Israel seems to be of far less interest, strangely.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yes, you heard that right. This was at minimum\u00a0collusion<\/em>\u00a0with Israel. But it goes much deeper than that. If this story is accurate, and we have every reason to believe it is (especially by the large silence in the American media, usually a positive indication of media avoidance), this would indicate that the then President-elect\u2019s close advisor and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, was clearly acting as a foreign agent \u2013 on behalf of the state of Israel.\u00a0The fact the US media are not taking this story more seriously should serve as a reminder as to how much power the Israeli Lobby wields in the US, not just over politicians, but over mainstream media as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

Granted, this is a very serious charge \u2013 which comes with some serious consequences if Kushner would ever be indicted, but the facts clearly demonstrate beyond any reasonable doubt, that then President-elect\u2019s son-in-law was using his proximity to the incoming Commander and Chief to execute a series of highly sensitive foreign policy maneuvers at the request of a foreign country.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0history of Israeli spying and outright meddling in US affairs<\/a>\u00a0is no secret to anyone willing to research it (unofficially a forbidden topic in US mainstream media), but this latest episode with Trump and Kushner is even more disturbing considering this week\u2019s controversial\u00a0East Jerusalem announcement<\/a>\u00a0(21WIRE warned about an East Jerusalem provocation\u00a012 months ago<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Beyond this, many will argue that the radical fundamentalist Zionist agenda which Kushner is aggressively pursuing on behalf of Tel Aviv is not in the interest of the wider Middle East, nor is it good for America\u2019s European partners, and may even contribute to a further destablization of the region \u2013 as evidenced by\u00a0recent violence which has erupted<\/a>\u00a0following Trump\u2019s provocative move. The result is not necessarily in America\u2019s interests, even if it is certainly in Israel\u2019s interests.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what we learned last week when Mueller\u2019s team unveiled its plea deal with Trump\u2019s former national security adviser, retired Gen. Michael Flynn. In December 2016, the\u00a0United Nations Security Council was debating a\u00a0draft resolution<\/a>\u00a0that condemned Israeli settlement expansion in the occupied territories as a \u201cflagrant violation under international law\u201d that was \u201cdangerously imperiling the viability\u201d of an independent Palestinian state.<\/em><\/p>\n

The Obama administration had made it clear that the U.S. was planning to abstain on the resolution, while\u00a0noting<\/a>\u00a0that \u201cthe settlements have no legal validity\u201d and\u00a0observing<\/a>\u00a0how \u201cthe settlement problem has gotten so much worse that it is now putting at risk the \u2026 two-state solution.\u201d (Rhetorically, at least, U.S. opposition to Israeli settlements has been a long-standing and bipartisan position for decades: Ronald Reagan\u00a0called<\/a>\u00a0for \u201ca real settlement freeze\u201d in 1982 while George H.W. Bush tried to curb Israeli settlement-building plans by briefly\u00a0cutting off<\/a>\u00a0U.S. loan guarantees to the Jewish state in 1991.)<\/em><\/p>\n

Everyone expected that the upcoming UN vote on illegal Israeli settlements was going to be a divisive issue, but with only weeks before Trump\u2019s fast approaching inauguration, Israel had its trojan horse in position. Hassan goes on to explain Tel Aviv\u2019s covert mechanism for manipulating the UN vote:<\/p>\n

\u201cOn or about December 22, 2016, a very senior member of the Presidential Transition Team directed Flynn to contact officials from foreign governments, including Russia, to learn where each government stood on the resolution and to influence those governments to delay the vote or defeat the resolution,\u201d reads the\u00a0statement of offense<\/a>\u00a0against Flynn, who\u00a0pleaded guilty<\/a>\u00a0to lying to the FBI about his conversations with the Russian ambassador to the U.S. \u201cOn or about December 22, 2016, Flynn contacted the Russian Ambassador about the pending vote. Flynn informed the Russian Ambassador about the incoming administration\u2019s opposition to the resolution, and requested that Russia vote against or delay the resolution.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

So who was this very senior member of Trump\u2019s team who sought to execute orders from the office of Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu? Hassan explains:<\/p>\n

Who was the \u201cvery senior member\u201d of the transition team who \u201cdirected\u201d Flynn to do all this?\u00a0Multiple<\/a>\u00a0news<\/a>\u00a0outlets<\/a>\u00a0have confirmed that it was Jared Kushner, Trump\u2019s son-in-law and main point man on the Middle East peace process. \u201cJared called Flynn and told him you need to get on the phone to every member of the Security Council and tell them to delay the vote,\u201d a Trump transition official\u00a0revealed to BuzzFeed News<\/a>\u00a0on Friday, adding that Kushner told Flynn \u201cthis was a top priority for the president.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

According to BuzzFeed: \u201cAfter hanging up, Flynn told the entire room [at the Trump transition team HQ] that they\u2019d have to start pushing to lobby against the U.N. vote, saying \u2018the president wants this done ASAP.\u2019\u201d Flynn\u2019s guilty plea, BuzzFeed continued, revealed \u201cfor the first time how Trump transition officials solicited Russia\u2019s help to head off the UN vote and undermine the Obama administration\u2019s policy on Middle East peace before ever setting foot in the White House.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even during the height of the Neocon era, with multiple Israeli loyalists in the cabinet (including some dual passport holders) shaping White House Middle East policy \u2013 ultimately into a ditch with Iraq, the level of manipulation wasn\u2019t this overt. Trump\u2019s decision to reverse successive US administrations\u2019 new policy on East Jerusalem is inconceivable, if not for some other x-factor which the\u00a0PNAC-dominated<\/a>\u00a0George W. Bush could not even manage.<\/p>\n

The facts of the case against Kushner have not been contested, and in fact Kushner has even been gloating out on the speaking circuit, with his doting wife Ivanka proudly advertising her husband\u2019s \u2018accomplishment\u2019 on behalf Israel.<\/p>\n
