<\/div>\nJohn Bolton<\/strong>\u00a0replacing\u00a0HR McMaster<\/strong>\u00a0as Trump\u2019s national security advisor (effective April 9) likely means more war and greater world instability, not less.<\/em><\/p>\n His appointment to a sensitive administration position is something to lose sleep over.<\/p>\n Hillary\u2019s defeat didn\u2019t dodge a nuclear bullet, as hoped for. It gave Trump the trigger, perhaps as willing to squeeze it to prove his machismo, a terrifying possibility.<\/p>\n Straightaway in office he proved he\u2019s America\u2019s latest warrior president, placing hawkish generals in charge of geopolitical policymaking \u2013 accentuated by replacing\u00a0Rex Tillerson<\/strong>\u00a0with\u00a0Mike Pompeo<\/strong>, and now raging hawk John Bolton as national security advisor.<\/p>\n The most perilous time in world history is now more frightening. Long forgotten is Trump\u2019s campaign hyperbole, calling NATO \u201cobsolete,\u201d along with criticizing trillions of dollars spent on militarism and warmaking.<\/p>\n Instead of stepping back from wars he inherited, he escalated them. With Pompeo at State and Bolton as national security advisor, greater war on humanity is likely.<\/p>\n One observer ripped Bolton, saying<\/p>\n \u201c(h)e never met a country he didn\u2019t want to destroy.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Another said he\u2019s much more than \u201ca run-of-the-mill hawk\u2026He\u2019s never seen a foreign policy problem that couldn\u2019t be solved by bombing.\u201d<\/p>\n Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation director\u00a0Alexandra Bell<\/strong>\u00a0said<\/p>\n \u201c(b)etween Pompeo and Bolton, you\u2019re looking at a neocon foreign policy jacked up on steroids.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Bolton is militantly hostile to Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, and Syria, among other nations on his target list.<\/p>\n In February, he called for a \u201cdecidedly disproportionate,\u201d anti-Russia cyber offensive. He urged Trump to let Putin \u201chear the rumble of artillery and NATO tank tracks conducting more joint field exercises with Ukraine\u2019s military.\u201d<\/p>\n During a recent Fox News interview, he said<\/p>\n \u201cRussia, China, Syria, Iran, North Korea. (They) make agreements and lie about them,\u201d adding:<\/p>\n \u201cA national security policy that is based on the faith that (nations) like that will honor their commitments is doomed to failure.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n He joined the \u201cRussia meddled in America\u2019s electoral process\u201d crowd straightaway \u2013 recently calling Moscow\u2019s (nonexistent) attempt to undermine the 2016 presidential election \u201ca casus belli, a true act of war, and one Washington will never tolerate,\u201d adding:<\/p>\n \u201cFor Trump, it should be a highly salutary lesson about the character of Russia\u2019s leadership to watch Putin lie to him.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cAnd it should be a fire-bell-in-the-night warning about the value Moscow places on honesty, whether regarding election interference, nuclear proliferation, arms control or the Middle East: negotiate with today\u2019s Russia at your peril.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI think in order to focus Putin\u2019s thinking, we need to do things that cause him pain\u2026\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n He called for \u201cabrogat(ing) New START between Washington and Moscow, a nuclear arms reduction treaty agreed to in 2009, signed in 2010.<\/p>\n He urged a \u201cvery strong response\u201d to the Sergey Skripal incident Russia had nothing to do with.<\/p>\n He advocates confronting nonexistent Chinese \u201caggressiveness\u2026shak(ing) up\u201d Washington\u2019s relationship with Beijing \u2013 urging greater toughness along with closer ties to Taiwan.<\/p>\n According to East Asia analyst\u00a0Abraham Denmark<\/strong>,<\/p>\n \u201c(w)e should expect an even more confrontational approach to China. A trade war may just be the beginning of a broader geopolitical competition.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Bolton earlier called for military action on Iran and North Korea. In a 2015\u00a0NYT op-ed<\/a>, he headlined: \u201cTo Stop Iran\u2019s Bomb, Bomb Iran,\u201d turning truth on its head saying \u201cIran\u2019s steady progress toward nuclear weapons has long been evident,\u201d adding:<\/p>\n \u201cThe inescapable conclusion is that Iran will not negotiate away its nuclear program. Nor will sanctions block its building a broad and deep weapons infrastructure. The inconvenient truth is that only military action like Israel\u2019s 1981 attack on Saddam Hussein\u2019s Osirak reactor in Iraq or its 2007 destruction of a Syrian reactor, designed and built by North Korea, can accomplish what is required.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
