Russian state media channels, in a near simultaneous blitz of information, have issued breaking alerts this morning that anti-Assad insurgents in Idlib have\u00a0begun filming “fake footage of chemical attacks” based on Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) statements<\/strong>. The Russian Center for Syrian Reconciliation says the “fake footage of chemical attacks” \u00a0is expected to be delivered to various TV channels and Western journalists\u00a0before the end of the day Tuesday<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Russia’s\u00a0Sputnik News<\/em>\u00a0indicates\u00a0based on official Moscow sources<\/a>:<\/p>\n According to\u00a0the information received from\u00a0inhabitants of\u00a0Idlib province, militants are now filming a staged provocation in\u00a0the city of\u00a0Jisr al-Shugur, where “chemical weapons” are depicted as\u00a0being used by\u00a0the Syrian army against\u00a0civilians.\u00a0The film crews of\u00a0several Middle Eastern TV channels arrived in\u00a0Jisr al-Shugur in\u00a0the morning, as\u00a0well as\u00a0the regional affiliate of\u00a0one of\u00a0the main American television news networks”<\/strong>, the Reconciliation Center said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Jisr al-Shugur is a key al-Qaeda held town in Idlib Province, specifically under the control of\u00a0Hayat Tahrir al-Sham<\/em>\u00a0(formerly Nusrah Front, or al-Qaeda). There have been international journalists\u00a0inside\u00a0Jisr al-Shugur<\/a>\u00a0over the past weeks.<\/p>\n Official Russian military sources also say\u00a0two containers with\u00a0chlorine-based toxic substance have been brought to\u00a0Jisr al-Shugur; however, the sources did not cite any specific intelligence or provide evidence to back\u00a0the claim.<\/p>\n The Russian MoD described, per\u00a0Sputnik<\/em><\/a>:<\/p>\n The plot envisages staged scenes showing ‘activists’ of\u00a0the Civil Defence (“White Helmets”) ‘helping’ the residents of\u00a0Jisr al-Shughur after\u00a0the Syrian army allegedly used the so-called barrel bombs with\u00a0poisonous substances,” the center said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Meanwhile Russian channel RT also featured the charges in breaking news,\u00a0describing<\/a>:<\/p>\n Several Middle East TV channels and a local\u00a0branch of a leading US news channel have been sent to the city of Jisr al-Shughur in Syria\u2019s Idlib governorate to produce the footage needed for the provocation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n This comes the same morning as a new\u00a0Wall Street Journal\u00a0<\/em>report\u00a0confirms<\/a>\u00a0that\u00a0the White House is now in direct talks with the U.K. and France over plans for a possible third round of coordinated strikes on Syria<\/strong>\u00a0should the Syrian Army use chemical weapons during its Idlib assault.<\/p>\n Speaking to reporters after a major speech on Monday, US national security advisor John Bolton slammed Moscow’s allegations of an impending staged “chemical provocation,” saying\u00a0\u201cThat has to be, in the history of propaganda in the 20th and 21st centuries, one of the most outrageous claims that I can think of,\u201d according to the\u00a0WSJ<\/a>.<\/p>\n * * *<\/p>\n Meanwhile in Idlib,\u00a0some truly strange theatrics have already begun<\/strong>, with\u00a0Al Jazeera\u00a0<\/em>depicting locals preparing paper cups, bags and cotton, which are somehow supposed to serve as “chemical protective” gear.\u00a0Reuters<\/em>\u00a0has also promoted some of the images of residents with plastic bags over their heads in recent coverage.<\/p>\n The\u00a0Al Jazeera\u00a0<\/em>(AJ+) report aired late last week, and\u00a0ranks as\u00a0one of the more bizarre propaganda stunts\u00a0we’ve seen<\/strong>\u00a0from the Qatar-based channel.<\/p>\n Chemical attack imminent?
