A heckler shouts at Howard Schultz during an event in New York: &quot;Don&#39;t help elect Trump, you egotistical, billionaire asshole.&quot; Via CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/oabwfNnsmp\">pic.twitter.com\/oabwfNnsmp<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Kyle Griffin (@kylegriffin1) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kylegriffin1\/status\/1090057028314243072?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 29, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Fellow billionaire Michael Bloomberg warned Schultz not to run as an independent, writing on Monday that he had to make the same decision in 2008 when he was considering running for office.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I faced exactly the same decision now facing others who are considering it,&#8221;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mikebloomberg.com\/news\/mike-bloomberg-statement-independent-run\/\">said Bloomberg<\/a>. &#8220;The data was very clear and very consistent.\u00a0<strong>Given the strong pull of partisanship and the realities of the electoral college system, there is no way an independent can win.<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<strong>In 2020, the great likelihood is that an independent would just split the anti-Trump vote and end up re-electing the President.<\/strong>\u00a0That&#8217;s a risk I refused to run in 2016 and we can&#8217;t afford to run it now,&#8221; Bloomberg added. &#8220;We must remain united, and we must not allow any candidate to divide or fracture us.\u00a0<strong>The stakes couldn\u2019t be higher.<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Schultz, on the other hand, thinks that there are enough moderate voters on both sides of the aisle who are sick of the status quo and will rally behind him.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I believe that lifelong Democrats and lifelong Republicans are looking for a home,&#8221; Schultz told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2020-presidential-election-howard-schultz-run-1d3251eb-ae14-44fc-8595-45a9cf41dc5e.html\"><em>Axios<\/em><\/a>\u00a0on Sunday night &#8211; acknowledging that a vote-splitting campaign &#8220;is going to create hate, anger, disenfranchisement from friends, from Democrats.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Neera Tanden,\u00a0president of the Center for American Progress,\u00a0called for a Starbucks boycott\u00a0<\/strong>if Schultz enters the race, tweeting: &#8220;Vanity projects that help destroy democracy are disgusting. Watched him on @60Minutes last night and I agree with him that he is not the \u201csmartest person.\u201d\u00a0Besides, America already has that! I only hope that Starbucks is still paying me their rent in Trump Tower!&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Howard Schultz doesn\u2019t have the \u201cguts\u201d to run for President! It\u2019s childish.<\/strong>\u00a0I\u2019m not trying to win the Twitter primary&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Schultz, worth $3.4 billion,\u00a0owns 33 million shares of Starbucks as of June 26, 2018.
