The impact smashed windows and uprooted roofs of some buildings and reduced others to rubble.<\/p>\n<p>The plant had been flattened and reduced to rubble, with only part of the workshop frame still standing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/news\/china\/society\/article\/3002772\/jiangsu-chemical-plant-explosion-death-toll-reaches-44-32\">South China Morning Post reports<\/a> that Cao Lubao, mayor of Yancheng, where the blast occurred, said on Friday that <strong>nearly 3,000 people \u2013 employees of nearby plants and residents \u2013 had been evacuated<\/strong> after the explosion at the Jiangsu Tianjiayi Chemical plant in the township of Chenjiagang, which left a giant crater.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Schools and kindergartens had been closed<\/strong> while the authorities monitored air and water quality, Cao said.<\/p>\n<p>State news agency Xinhua released a video of a man calling out to his family just after he was pulled from the rubble on Thursday night.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><strong>\u201cI am out. Firefighters rescued me. I am fine, just some minor injuries,\u201d <\/strong>the man said, gasping.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI couldn\u2019t get through on 120 [ambulance hotline] at all,\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cWe had no other means but to drive this broken car \u2026 One had an injured foot and the other had damage to his internal organs.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Workers at the Henglida Chemical Factory, 3km from the blast, said its windows and doors were blown out.
