{"id":33148,"date":"2019-04-22T08:23:43","date_gmt":"2019-04-22T12:23:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cosmicconvergence.org\/?p=33148"},"modified":"2019-04-22T08:23:43","modified_gmt":"2019-04-22T12:23:43","slug":"like-father-like-son-only-the-sons-are-gorillas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cosmicconvergence.org\/?p=33148","title":{"rendered":"Like father like son &#8230; only the sons are gorillas"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Gorillas pose for selfie with DR Congo anti-poaching unit<\/h1>\n<p><!--more--><div id=\"attachment_121327\" style=\"width: 670px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/106544711_e4922507-673a-4f2f-b91d-3479994a870b.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-121327\" src=\"http:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/106544711_e4922507-673a-4f2f-b91d-3479994a870b.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"660\" height=\"507\" class=\"size-full wp-image-121327\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-121327\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">RANGER MATHIEU SHAMAVU  &#8211;<br \/>The gorillas are apparently trying to imitate humans<\/p><\/div><\/p>\n<p>BBC<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body__introduction\"><strong>Two gorillas have been photographed posing for a relaxed selfie with the rangers who rescued them as babies.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The image was taken at a gorilla orphanage in Virunga National Park, DR Congo, where the animals were raised after poachers killed their parents.<\/p>\n<p>The park&#8217;s deputy director told BBC Newsday that they had learned to imitate their carers, who have looked after them since they were found.<\/p>\n<p>The gorillas, he added, think of the rangers as their parents.<\/p>\n<p>Innocent Mburanumwe, deputy director of Virunga, told the BBC that that the gorillas&#8217; mothers were both killed in July 2007.<\/p>\n<p>The gorillas were just two and four months old at the time.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"story-body__unordered-list\">\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\"><a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-africa-47843999\">Poacher killed by elephant then eaten by lions<\/a><\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\"><a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-asia-47024682\">RIP Trevor the duck<\/a><\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\"><a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/science-environment-46199100\">Hope for mountain gorillas<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Shortly afterwards, they were found and taken to Senkwekwe Sanctuary in Virunga, where they have lived ever since.<\/p>\n<p>Because they&#8217;ve grown up with the rangers who rescued them, Mr Mburanumwe added, &#8220;they are imitating the humans&#8221; &#8211; and standing on two legs is their way of &#8220;learning to be human beings&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>But it &#8220;doesn&#8217;t happen normally&#8221;, he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was very surprised to see it&#8230; so it&#8217;s very funny.
